Rails makes heavy use of conventions to make a developer’s life easier. A few people have asked me where to find a list of these conventions, as they tend to be sprinkled all over the place. Here’s one such list: Starting Ruby on Rails: What I Wish I Knew. It may not cover everything, but it’s a good start.

I’ve been thinking about coding up the guts of an inventory system for my parents’ retail store. Here’s a little How-To on Producing PNG barcode images from a Ruby on Rails application using RMagick and Gbarcode. In related news, here’s an announcement for Omnistore, a POS system developed using RoR.

Here are a couple of lists from softwaredeveloper.com: 74 Quality Ruby on Rails Resources and Tutorials and The 56 Best RoR Driven Sites. Yay lists!

Slashdot has a review of a new book called Practical Ruby Gems from Apress. This is probably worth checking out if you’re a “serious’ Rubyist. The PDF from Apress is cheaper than the paper copy, if you’re into that sort of thing. I am.

This isn’t that big a deal, but I didn’t want to lose it: Is it possible to share a variable (or method) between views and a model?. It kills me that Rails Forum is a PHP site.

In the same vein, I didn’t want to lose track of this post on Date and Time formating issues in Ruby on Rails. Sending dates and times back and forth between MySQL and RoR has given me some surprises in the past.

Metaprogramming is a topic new to me, and here’s a post that deals with Ruby and Metaprogramming. I’ll have to dig into that soon…

…a little something from Big Blue: Turbocharge Ruby on Rails with ActiveScaffold….

…and something borrowed: Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) Resources Roundup for Ruby on Rails Developers.

Ok, maybe that wasn’t actually witty, but ’tis the season for weddings.
