Capturing workplace knowledge with Drupal – Better than wikis alone.

Drupal does not yet have wiki functionality built in by default. This being said it is possible to create a versioned document type that can be edited by all users with only a few mouse clicks. When combined with the diff module this versioned, fully editable document has the same characteristics of a wiki document without the annoying wiki syntax (which many would say is a good thing). There are wiki syntax modules in development for Drupal but in reality a rich-text HTML editor like TinyMCE is far easier to pick up and use by your average employee when compared to the often cryptic world of wiki-markup.

Drupal can give us all the advantages of wikis, but brings with it a host of other tools, including self-organizing groups, without a lot of added complexity.

Sharing Conference Invites using Drupal?? – Have Drupal talk to your mailing lists.

Messages to the teknoids mailing list go to a mailbox that is checked every 5 minutes via IMAP by Drupal. Any new messages are imported into Drupal and turned into teknoids forum postings. This is all done by mailhandler. Listhandler adds the capability of making the exchange 2-way. Anything posted to the teknoids forum on the website is mailed to the list, preserving who it is coming from, threading, etc. As an example, I’m posting this from the teknoids forum at www.teknoids.net.

Using a solution like this, a Drupal-based community site can grow naturally out of an existing community already communicating via mailing lists.

How do you support 500,000 users with Drupal? – Considerations when scaling Drupal.

Perhaps because of the fact that we run so much Drupal based infrastructure (we have more than one data center full of Drupal boxes), a question I get asked almost daily is: what kind box do I buy for my Drupal based website?

Scaling Drupal is a pretty hot topic these days, and some advice from those who’ve been there is welcome.

Drupal is the Official UCalgary Podcasting Solution – It’s not enough that they run it as their CMS for campus. I have the envy.
